FISH’s special edition packaging for 'A Feast of Consequences' won the 'Storm Thorgerson Grand Design' Award at this year’s Progressive Music Awards held at The Underglobe (as its name suggests - under The Globe Theatre in London). “I share it with Julie Wilkinson who helped me so much last year in producing paintings and drawings to help fill the 100 page book.”
“I had a brilliant evening, speaking to various people within the Progressive Music world, it was particularly nice to talk to Steve Rothery and Pete Trewavas, as Marillion had given me my big break over 30 years ago."

A year ago Julie and I started doing research for Fish's album A Feast of Consequences and finally last month it went on sale thru Fish's website: fishheadsclub.com It took many months to complete a 100 page book to accompany the 'special edition' of the album with drawings, paintings, photography and digital art all in the mix. Mark has been asked by Classic Rock Presents Prog to judge a competition for readers to design the CD coverdisc for the next issue. Anyone interested should take a peak at
http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/news/ design-classic-rock-presents-progs-next- cd-cover/
Mark was also asked to design the cover art for that issue, and his latest book Shadowplay will be reviewed too. The Black Box edition of Shadowplay has been slightly delayed due to the special black cloth binding being out of stock at the binders in Denmark:(
Mark has been assured that both editions will arrive no later than the middle of November. All the pre-orders of the book will be sent as soon as books arrive. This might not be such a bad thing as the UK postal strike - which is still going on might have delayed things anyway - hopefully this may have been settled by mid-November. All the A4 miniprints are signed and ready to place inside the wallet and the packaging is being delivered this week. So hopefully all will be more or less ready when Mark returns from Zurich on 12th November.
The pages for the Shadowplay book have all been printed and the binding is now being done, both for the standard hardback and special limited edition version. Mark should be taking delivery of the books in the next few weeks - so we will update the Masque site when they arrive. Mark will also be attending the Galileo Festival in Zurich on November 7th and 8th with his good friends from Galileo Records Patrick and Roberto and will hopefully have some books to display there. Mark: "Whenever I'm asked what my dream job would be...in the past I've always said something for Pink Floyd as they were my favourite band...and the nearest I came to experiencing fandom way back in the late 60's when I was fan club member 425! I saw Pink Floyd many times then and have continued to love (most) of their work ever since. Imagine my insane delight to be asked to paint a portrait of Syd for a DVD sleeve for 'The Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd Story'. I was also asked to create a montage for the inner sleeve...and had this been 6 years ago I would have still had all that fanclub stuff! But I sold a lot of it to a collector to finance the purchase of an Applemac to keep me afloat...I was broke at the time goddammit...an affliction most artists experience at odd times in their careers. I bitterly regret making that decision now of course! So I've had to beg, borrow and steal from friends who weren't so rash and still have some of their collections intact!
I am intending to paint something that remains faithful to the spirit of Syd and Pink Floyd of those early days, in particular the UFO Club/Hapshash-And-The -Coloured-Coat style of art that so inspired me as a teenager. The DVD has already been released in the UK, so this will be the American NTSC version."

The exhibition in Norway was very successful. Mark opened the show, displaying 35 of his best designs as Giclée prints, on the Saturday afternoon July 3 at 2:00pm and unveiled his the new painting 'The Fool' half an hour afterwards. Some of the fans had travelled many hours to be there and Mark really enjoyed chatting to them, answering questions about his work over the years and discussing the new pieces on show. A working version of a new painting 'Lepidoptera' was shown and he had many enquiries about the band RAK who commissioned it. There will be a website soon for them, but for now there is some info on the writer and vocalist Dave Thwaites' site: http://www.spiritualmind.org/rak.htm
After the exhibition opening the Marillion tribute band, Misplaced Neighbourhood, played an acoustic set outside the hotel bar. In the evening they played the full electric set at another bar in Holmsbu, with a sell out show dedicated to Marillion old and new. They went down a storm, and reckoned it was the best set they'd ever played and the most enthusiastic crowd they'd ever had! The celebrating went on until the early hours. The exhibition continued until Wednesday and Mark was around for a few hours each day to chat to visitors to the show. Mark and his family; wife Julie, daughter Hannah and son Sean (who modelled as the jester for the new painting) had a great time at the show and had a very relaxed holiday at the wonderful hotel which is situated in such a stunning area...many thanks go to Morten Eliassen for organising such a fantastic week for them.

Mark has had some great news, in his own words...
"Well I must be doing something right, both 'Lightbulbsun' and 'The Wicker Man' have been accepted for this year's Association of Illustrators 'Images 25-The Best Of British Illustration' book and also at least one of them (hopefully both) will be included in the 'Images 25 exhibition' at The Royal College of Art next April!! Both images will be included in the Association of Illustrator's website: www.aoi.co.uk at the same time as publication next April too. This is good news, I used to
enter every year for this but never got in. It was Harry, my Agent who pushed me into entering again as he loved the new stuff so much. Literally thousands of artists enter every year, so the competition's stiff. Imagine...Eddie at the Royal College of Art!"
